Bela Furtiva opens its first pop-up store in the centre of Carballo, in an emblematic location, from 1st June to 30th June 2023 at Calle Desiderio Varela 9, on the corner of Calle Colón.

This is the first time that Bela Furtiva makes it possible to see and touch its furniture in a space that is open to the public, as up to this time, the firm has worked exclusively online or by appointment.

It was decided to open a pop-up store in Carballo because it was there that the inspiration came to find the original references to the beautiful furtive women who fought against the social conventions that relegated them to second place. With the idea of paying homage to them and after becoming imbued with the wild landscapes and rationalist architecture of Carballo, the firm’s first collection was born, named Fenta.

Both Fenta and Aymat are two exclusive Bela Furtiva collections inspired in this enclave of the Bergantiños district. Aymat – a unique mixture of design elements from Lebanon and Galicia – is dedicated to Jorge Varela, the cousin of Xema Varela and a native of Carballo, who died some years ago. But it is not the only family link between Bela Furtiva and Carballo. “My grandparents,” says Varela, “had a business here over fifty years ago, in a building with rationalist airs that is still standing today.”

Bela Furtiva lands in Carballo with four collections: two inspired by this city, Fenta and Aymat, and two others that are shown for the first time, Lagoa and Faiscas, with the certainty that those who visit the display can identify with some of the pieces, as they represent small doses of Galician culture translated into more contemporary language.

In addition, taking advantage of the fact that the San Xoán festivities, which are so important for Carballo, are held in June, Bela Furtiva gives its own nod to the celebration with its hand- printed linen tote bags decorated with San Xoán flowers motifs.
